Just did some last minute blog-hopping before heading out to a smashing New Year's Eve party at the Mister's place.. and i came across this piece of awesomeness:

That's right... a dessert bar! Yums!

I've personally not been to any local weddings which had a dessert bar. At most an ice-cream bar and a few plates of sweet cakes, but nothing more.

Now wouldn't it be wicked to have one of these?

Candies, popcorn, cakes, cupcakes, chocolates, jelly beans... the list goes on. And so does my imagination.

I'm Engaged!

I've been looking and thinking of what we could possibly do for our engagement photo shoot.

While most people only have a pre-wedding photo shoot, Jason's awesome friend Matthew Lim a.k.a Lee Matai, has offered to do an engagement shoot for us... FOR FREE! *gasps*

And what I mean by an engagement shoot is that it'll just be a shoot of the 2 of us together. No wedding gowns, no tuxedos, no bouquets.. just US.

It sounds really fun.
But here comes the UH-OH factor, we can't seem to decide what theme or even where we're gonna shoot this!

And sure, outdoorsy kinda photo shoots look somewhat awesome, but just thinking about the sun and the oh-so-hot weather of Singapore.. really puts us both off.

So, it's a "No." to an outdoor shoot.

Then comes the next question:
Would it be wiser to decide on a theme first, then the venue? Or would it be better the other way around.

Answer:
Guess a good place to start would be to ask ourselves what and where do we spend most of our time doing.

But as to coming up with a grand idea about how the shoot would be like, well, that's another question to be tackled on another day, cause I'm just too sleepy right now :)

My time with you, is beautiful.

It the time of the year when everyone gets real busy,and somehow we seem kinda stuck with our wedding plans.

And of course, the groom's mightily busy helping out with his friends' weddings.

It's always a good reminder to take a minute now and then to remember what it was that made you fall in love with your fiancee/spouse/gf/bf/partner.

It's good to go back to Day 1.
It never fails to help me recapture those initial days of courtship and those lovey-dovey-mushy feelings that came with.

Boy, am I glad it's YOU i'm marrying. It really can't be anyone else.

I fell in love with Paper.

Did I mention i bought a whole load of wrapping paper and paper bags from Ikea?
I told Jason we should get them to wrap everyone's Christmas presents.
But the truth is, I just really loved how they look.

I. Love. Paper.
Pretty Paper, actually.
Better yet, vintage pretty paper (i.e. the first picture).
ah...... pretty things do exist in this world.

I am absolutely falling in love with the idea of setting up a makeshift photo booth or placing disposable cameras everywhere at during my wedding.

This way, my guests would be our eyes during the night and capture moments we, as The Couple, would otherwise be missing out on.

And the idea of throwing in some quirky props like fake beards, wigs, thought bubbles, for our guests to take pictures with just seems TOO FUN!

A little simple piece of cloth, a few random props from Daiso and a bunch of disposable cameras (Wholesale price = S$3.90 for a camera with 20 shots), and there you have it... something affordable and fun to do at a wedding! :)

Plus, all we'll need is just one single photographer to follow us around. No paparazzi-esque scenario at our wedding. Sounds.... well, just about brilliant.

Our friends and family will just be tasked to take photos of themselves and/with us - amateurs or professional photographers alike.

And when we do look back at our wedding photo album, we'll be able to see our wedding through the eyes of guests as well.

Liking them long

I am in L-O-V-E with the idea of a long table setting.
They just make the entire venue look so chic!

Plus, we have this theory that a long table setting would allow our guests to mingle with at least 5 people around them; as compared to shouting over a round table or mingling with only the 2 people seated beside them.

And since we would love for everyone to have fun and talk to people they don't normally talk to, this would be a great way for everyone to get together!

I've not been to a wedding that has a long table setting, but both Jason and I are sure looking into getting that for our wedding.

Just throw in some white candles and simple fresh flower arrangements, and there you have it, an amazingly elegant table setting.

Guess now all we have to do is find hotel/restaurant which does long table setting and of course, it must have a yummylicious buffet menu.

We're gravitating towards to idea of a relaxed setting - soft candle light, jazz music playing softly in the background, and our guests all mingling and having a fun time. So this fits in nicely with our likings.

Ooooh... i cannot wait for the venue search to begin!

Of cakes and more

I am seriously considering getting a real cake, instead of those plastic inedible models which hotels and restaurants in Singapore offer.

I mean why not? Since we both love cakes so much, it might just be a very good idea!

However, with everything that has to do with a wedding celebration, vendors tend to charge at least 30% more than they would for a normal event (e.g. corporate function, birthday party...) and a wedding cake will cost from anything between a few hundreds to a thousand.

So how do I get around this?

Opt for a HUGE single tiered cake?
Or opt for a small multi-tiered cake?
Or opt for a normal sized single tiered cake and bake my own cupcakes to give out as wedding favours?


Which shall I choose?

We've only just begun

I'm finally at the first point in our wedding process. Jason and I sat down at Starbucks in Holland Village with a cup of Hot Caramel Macchiato each and started on our wedding planning.


Through those few precious hours of flipping through magazines and looking at online print-outs, we were able to come up with a few things. Essentially, they were the feel of our wedding, the number of guests we're planning to host and of course, our budget.

As you can see in the picture above, I've blurred out our budget as it's a very sensitive issue in the Wedding Plan... won't wanna hurt our ang baos, as materialistic as it sounds. Ha!

But once our wedding's over, be sure that our total costs will be announced :)

In our wedding plans, there is just a one lofty purpose and goal attached. We both want to pay for the whole thing ourselves because we want to make all the decisions ourselves. And we truly wanted the wedding to represent us, not anyone else. Our wedding is going to be a very important event because it only happens once and it's a chance to bring so many friends and family together. We wanted everyone--our guests and ourselves--to have a splendid time.

We want our loved ones to truely have a wonderful time and bask in the lovely presence of God and socialise!

Let's face it, no one really does any real socialising at a wedding in Singapore! You don't even get to talk to the couple at all too!

We don't want our wedding to be one that passed us by in a flash. And we definitely don't want to just whizz from table to table in under 30 seconds flat time and then realise the day after that we've not even had a decent conversation with any of our guests for more than a minute each! *horrors*

So yes, we are thriving to be as unconventional as possible. We want to talk to our guest and really socialise with the people we love. We want to REALLY share our happiness with the people who matter!

And that means...
No to crazy packed wedding programme line-up.
No to dashing from table to table ONLY to take pictures with my guests.
No to TEN MILLION photographers and videographers hovering around us and alienating our guests.
No to wasteful spending.
No to tacky music, decor, invite cards... and that list goes on.

Plus, we are also up for the challenge of making our event special with sincerity, rather than money. Our wedding budget will be an amount that will leave the creative control in our hands and ensure that our wedding was the fullest expression of us and our love.

So that means...
Yes to appreciating and acknowledging that Daddy God is with us every single step of the way.
Yes to making our beloved guests feel special and a part of our very special and amazing wedding to be.
Yes to not succumbing to the pressures of spending unnecessarily on things we don't need.
Yes to holding each other's hand through it all and never allowing stress to take over.

Oh, I can't wait to get down to serious business!
